Living in a small space doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice style or settle for pieces that don’t work with your space. Here’s how we designed an open living/dining room that is comfortable, clean, and bursting with style.

1. Statement Piece
Set the stage for the rest of the room with a focal piece. Here, we chose a retro-inspired TV console with a walnut finish, white doors, and mid-century modern’s iconic tapered legs. It sets the stage for an eclectic, curated look throughout the rest of the room.
2. Colorful Rug
Tie your space together with a colorful rug that adds interest to your space. Here, a geometric patterned rug adds life to the space with its colorful pattern while contrasting with the wood tones in the console and the neutral wall color. It also serves as a palette for our accessories with the yellow, blue, and green hues it shares with the wall art, table lamp, and accent pillows.
3. Streamlined and Functional Furniture
It’s great if your space looks nice, but it’s even better when your space is as functional as it is stylish. We used streamlined and efficient pieces, like a visually light glass dining table and coffee table, to create an open and airy feel. Each piece is big enough to get the job done, but doesn’t take up unnecessary space.
Transforming your small space into a stylish abode is easy if you set the stage with a focal piece, add color through a rug and coordinating accessories, and choose furniture that is streamlined and functional.
