Today we are chatting with AFW Buyer, Ashley Kaminski, about one of her favorite design trends: mixed metals. This trend is quickly gaining popularity and it’s something you can easily adapt in your own home.
Q: We are seeing a lot of mixed metals in interior design magazines and at home markets. Do you think this trend is here to stay?
A: I think this trend has lasting potential. Not only are we seeing mixed metals in interiors and home furnishings, but we’re also seeing this in jewelry and fashion. It’s very versatile and gives people options without being stuck to one finish.
Q: What do you love about the mixed metal trend?
A: I love that it blends a combination of different finishes to where you don’t have to worry about everything matching. It adds a unique and eclectic style.
Q: What should you look for when selecting mixed metal accessories for your home?
A: First, I would look at what finishes you currently have in your home such as light fixtures, faucets, and cabinet pulls. For example, if you have brass or gold light fixtures in your home a table lamp or mirror with an oil rubbed bronze finish would look great paired together.
Q: What, if anything, should you avoid when playing with the mixed metal trend?
A: Don’t overdo it! Less is definitely more! You can do something simple like gold metallic pillows on a sofa with chrome legs or mixing finishes of frames to create a distinctive gallery wall.
Q: What are some of your favorite metal accessories?
A: I love these metallic accent pillows (gold here and silver here) mixed with a neutral pattern. This unique metal end table would look great in a living room or bedroom. I also love these unique metallic accents: silver vase, white apple with gold leaf*, and decorative gold sunburst*.
