A Mix and Match Bedroom Two Ways

A Mix and Match Bedroom Two Ways

When you buy a coordinating bedroom set you don’t have to worry about your bed and other large pieces working together because they all match. But what about when you buy an upholstered bed that isn’t part of a set? Here’s how we mixed and matched large pieces and accents to create two cohesive bedroom looks.

Shabby Chic

Blue and cream rug in front of galvanized metal console and wingback chair

The first look we created is a shabby chic room with a cozy cottage feel. We used our rug as inspiration and put together a soft color palette of creams, pastels, and earth tones. We then incorporated the colors throughout the room with the coverlet, accent cabinet, and throw pillows.

Blue and cream accent chest and mirror

Antiqued shelf and organizer

Distressed, antiqued pieces like the wall mirror, wall shelf, and wall organizer add texture and a cool vintage vibe to the room.

Metal storage bin and galvanized metal storage console

We also used unique storage pieces to bring in even more eclectic character and function. The large distressed metal storage bins add style while also offering hidden storage, and the galvanized metal drawers of the console and distressed wood top add a funky reclaimed vibe.

Rustic Western

The second look we created is a vibrant, rustic western design that’s laid-back and welcoming. Once again, we used our rug as inspiration for a palette that blends warm and inviting colors, neutral taupe tones, and pops of contrasting turquoise. A mellow ochre bedspread creates a warm feeling while throw pillows, vases, and faux greenery add pops of color throughout the room.

Wood and metal accent table with accessories

Stone fireplace

We added plenty of rustic texture with different accessories like a wood and metal table, galvanized metal clock, and silver planter as well as larger pieces like a storage bench and stone fireplace.

Galvanized metal console with pots and branches

We used the same galvanized metal console from the first look to once again add extra storage and coordinate with the other galvanized metal accessories in the room. The large pots next to the console add splashes of color and texture while also holding branches that bring outdoor beauty inside.

By pulling a color palette from a rug, repeating similar colors and textures throughout the room, and choosing accents that coordinate with the style you’re creating, it’s easy to create a distinct look that mixes a variety of pieces for a cohesive feel.
