Marishka Schweitzer Biography

Marishka is an award winning artist with fond memories of painting at a young age and receiving art instruction from her Mom, who was also an accomplished artist and oil painter. She later graduated with honors from the former York Academy of Arts in York, Pennsylvania where she was classically trained and focused on fine art painting. Many years ago she moved West and currently lives in Colorado Springs among the aspen trees with views of the Rocky Mountains which inspire her artwork.ûûThe artists poetic nature and landscape paintings are filled with luminous colors which celebrate natures majestic beauty and grandeur. They transport the viewer to peaceful and breathtaking vistas which uplift the spirit. She employs a highly distinctive and unique process of layering paint over a specially treated textured ground and often adds metallic overlays to heighten their reflective quality. Thick, heavy impasto brushstrokes and palette knife work combine with delicate touches resulting in a contemporary impressionistic style.ûûShe states, My art is a meditative process through which I attain an intimate touch with Mother Nature, and more importantly, the human spirit, which allows us to see and appreciate the beauty around us. She brings to her paintings the joyous energy she draws from her passion for the outdoors. Hiking and exploring in the mountains and forests across the western states are among the sources of inspiration for her paintings.ûû Marishka earned the distinction as one of the Artists to Watch by the prominent magazine Art Business News. Her art is sold by commercial galleries, collected by many individuals and corporations internationally , and have been widely exhibited in numerous one-person, invitational and juried exhibitions.ûûThe artist Marishka is also known as Marie (Cieniewicz) Schweitzer.
