How to Bring an Autumn Atmosphere to the Table

Fall is here! The days are growing shorter, leaves are turning brilliant scarlet and gold, and a crisp edge is creeping into the air. Read on to see how we styled this dining room to give it a cozy autumn feel.

The Table

We built this cozy tablescape using the Arikata Dining Collection along with Cream Chenille Parsons Chairs. The Arikata table, bench, and sideboard mix rustic wood and metal with a clean-lined design for a look that works with a range of decor. The table and bench feature the details that give this collection its name: arikata is the Japanese term for the butterfly joints that contribute to this collection's unique look.

The Colors

We drew inspiration from the warm and earthy colors found in nature this time of year: rich reds, pumpkin oranges, deep umbers, and subdued greens. We repeated these colors throughout the room to ensure that it felt unified. Pulling colors from a piece of art, like the canvas giclée of a stormy autumn morning at Zion National Park on the sideboard, is an easy way to pick a color palette.

The Textures

Texture breaks up hard lines for an inviting atmosphere while adding visual and tactile interest to the room. Faux plants bring the outdoors inside, a deep pile shag rug gives a luxurious feel underfoot, and fluffy pillows create an additional sense of coziness. On the table, a textured table runner and felt placemats add an extra textural boost.

The Layers

Elements of varying heights invite the eye to roam while making the room feel as abundant as a cornucopia. Tall and feathery faux grass flanks the sideboard, while smaller faux grass works as a centerpiece and adorns the napkins. A tall branch-shaped table lamp on the sideboard pairs well with smaller teak vases.
